Praying Monk Ranch

Raising Quality Barrel Horses

About Us

The ranch consist of 4 hard working family members, Trey, Lynn and Amanda and Carly Haworth.

Praying Monk Ranch was originated in the early 1960s in Scottsdale, AZ under the Camalback Mountains and famous landmark, the Praying Monk. The ranch was owned by the Knights, who are Lynns grandparents. The original Praying Monk Ranch still is located on 2 acres in Scottsdale and is currently for sale.

When we moved up to North Idaho, we decided to continue the legacy of our relatives, and name our ranch Praying Monk as well.

BREEDING

Our goal is to raise and breed top barrel horses that have lines consisting of:

Frenchmans Guy, Sun Frost, Dash Ta Fame, First Down Dash, Dash For Cash, Dash For Perks, Grey Bardell, Easy Jet, Rocket Wrangler, Beduino (TB), Streakin Six, Martha Sixs Moons, Juno Dat Cash, Fire Water Flit, Doc Bar, Top Moon, Three Bars, Depth Charge (TB) as well as many more top race and cow horse sires and bloodlines.

We believe that its important to have proven broodmares matched up with proven stallions to create a baby that will one day be proven itself and win at any level of barrel racing whether its 4D open races, small local rodeo, pro rodeo, futurity, derbies, or even one day the National Finals Rodeo. Please browse though the site, all colts are always for sale, so please don't hesitate to email or call one one or more!!

TRAINING

Our training program is based on getting a horse broke, broke, broke! Being able to move and control all 5 body parts (head, neck, shoulders,  rib cage & hindend) is key to having a broke supple horse. We focus on getting our horses light in the mouth and the ribcage. I do a lot of flexing & bending exercise as well as reverse and counter arcs. Everything we do doesn't necessarily mean your horse has to be a barrel horse, however its always nice to jump on a broke horse and head out for a nice trail ride knowing your on a horse who will obey your every command! Let us work with your horse to achieve a BROKE horse!

After we get our horses broke, we put them on the pattern! Everything at our place gets put on the pattern to decide whether they are going to make it or not. We take it slow, and only work the pattern once a week. Every time I send my horses threw the pattern whether its a walk or lope, I ride and train exactly how I would run. I go to the horn, I sit, I move their inside hind leg up underneath them, I lift their shoulder and I drive them into the turn. Perfect practice makes perfect. If we are having barrel issues, I only use 1 or 2 barrels and work on the issue, never on the pattern. Trail riding and working cows is a big priority when training to keep our horses minds fresh as well as my own. Once a horse gets solid on the pattern we start hauling and showing the sites!!

Email us with any questions!

Working cattle is just one of the ways we keep our barrel horses minds open, calm, and continuously doing what we ask of them inside and outside the arena.
